Day Tour S04 Viticulture and Winemaking between Tradition and Innovation

8:30 am - Departure from House of Parliament to the first visit site
An English tour guide will accompany participants during their trip. 2h drive by bus.
10:30 am - Visit of the Budureasca vineyards and winery - Budureasca SRL, Gura Vadului no 472, Prahova county, www.budureasca.ro
Area: 275 hectares of vineyards of which 250 ha new plantations. The vineyard, situated in very favorable locations of DOC Dealu Mare, includes a plot of vines of only 7.5 hectares, grown organically and carefully monitored by one of the most renowned certification bodies: Austria Bio Garantie.
Varieties planted: Sauvignon blanc, Fetească regală, Fetească albă, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, Tămâioasă Româniească, Muscat Ottonel; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Fetească neagra, Shiraz, Pinot Noir.
Winemaking: The winemaking style is modern, New World, where the well-ripened tannins and colour intensity specific to the Dealu Mare region are complemented by the abundant use of modern technology (enzymes, yeasts, etc.) to give rise to fruity, concentrated and velvety red wines and expressive white wines. Oak wood is used and expressed in all its possible variants.

12h30 - Departure from Budureasca to Pietroasa Winery
13h00 – Lunch at Pietroasa Winery - Traditional Romanian food based on vegetables and fruits in season, meats, cheese. Lunch includes starter, main course and dessert, water, coffee & tea
14:00 pm - Visit of Pietroasa Winery – Branch of USAMV for Education, Research and Production, Pietroasele Village, Buzău county, https://www.pietroasaveche.ro/
Here everyone can find something to learn and something to visit: the history of the places; the tale of the 4th century “Pietroasele Treasure” (19 kg of artistic gold items were unearthed here and the 12 (of 22) pieces which survived are kept now at the National Museum of Romanian History, in Bucharest); the wine and its medals; wine tasting; pairing wines with food; last but not least, research and technical support regarding vineyards and winmaking, insight into the improvement of the viticultural assortment through the creation of new varieties and clonal selection.
Area: About 100 hectares of vineyards of which 9.8 ha of Cabernet Sauvignon under conversion to organic viticulture.
Varieties and specific Clones developed at Pietroasa: Tămâioasă Românească 36 Pt and 5 Pt; Grasă de Cotnari 4 Pt and 45 Pt., Busuioacă de Bohotin 26 Pt., Băbească Neagră 94 Pt., Fetească Neagră 10 Pt., Otilia, Timpuriu de Pietroasa, Centenar Pietroasa, Istriţa, Mihaela and Alb Aromat. Other varieties: Fetească regală, Fetească albă, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot.
Winemaking: The winemaking combines traditional methods with modern and sustainable techniques. New technology is now used for the production and maturation of the wines. The aromatic varieties and wines are the pride of the region and winery, as they benefit from a special unique terroir most suited for their production.
Commercial brands: Pietroasa Veche, Research & Innovation (retail); Pietroasa Reserva and Pietroasa Selection (HoReCa), wines from oenotheque.
15:30 – Wine tasting and discussions. Tasting of 9-10 wines representative for the region
17:30 - Departure from Pietroasa Winery to Bucharest (2h drive)
19:30 - 20:00 – Arrival in Bucharest
