Faculty of Biotechnical Systems Engineering
With a tradition of over 60 years, the Faculty of Biotechnical Systems Engineering (FISB) is an engineering school operating within the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, where educational and scientific research activities span across all three levels of university education: bachelor's (4 years), master's (2 years), and doctoral (4 years), under the motto "Technologies for a Cleaner Environment and Healthier Food!" (http://isb.pub.ro/).
FISB boasts a highly qualified academic staff and an impressive infrastructure that enables us to conduct teaching and research activities in four accredited fundamental fields: mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, food product engineering, and mechatronics and robotics.
The curricula for these four fields are tailored to the conditions and requirements of the market economy in both the country and the European Union. They ensure specialized training, proficiency in applied computer science, computer-aided design, computer programming aligned with the standards of prestigious European universities, as well as foundational knowledge in business and management specific to the specialization profile. Additionally, students receive training to enhance their proficiency in widely circulated international languages.
The main research themes addressed by the FISB faculty closely align with the key research directions outlined in the "Horizon Europe Program 2021-2027." These include smart and sustainable agriculture, secure, ecological, and efficient energy sources, food security, actions to combat climate and environmental changes, efficient use of resources and raw materials, bioeconomy, and intelligent, ecological, and integrated transport. The interdisciplinary nature of these domains is built upon close collaboration between the faculty's departments and teams, as well as with other organizational entities within or outside the university.
As a forefront institution in the field of Biotechnical Systems Engineering, our faculty is dedicated to advancing research and development in smart farming, incorporating IoT and robotics into agriculture. Our commitment lies in expanding research capacities towards intelligent specialization, aiming to innovate technologies and advanced technical equipment that align with the principles of Agriculture 5.0, reinforcing our position as a leading hub for technological advancements in Romania's agricultural and food industry."
