Georgios Tsoktouridis
George is a researcher in floriculture at the Institute of Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization Demeter, Thessaloniki, Greece. A scientist with a Ph.D. from Imperial College (U.K.) in plant tissue culture, a Postdoctoral fellowship from University of Scranton, Pennsylvania, (USA) in molecular comparative genomics and a ten-year academic teaching experience in Horticulture. His research is focused on the development of new flower crops for the horticultural industry sourced from the vast Greek biodiversity through domestication of endemic and native species, with emphasis on endemics, rare-threatened, floricultural-aromatic-medicinal plants. Since 2000, he is coordinator, principal investigator or member of scientific teams in more than20 research programmes and projects. Crop cultivation in the field and greenhouse, plant nutrition and development, plant tissue culture and genomics for the development of new molecular markers are his main areas of expertise. George is a Honorary member of the Romanian Academy for Agricultural and Forestry Sciences (Dept. of Horticulture), since 2021.
