Doina Petrescu is Chair of Architecture and Design Activism at the University of Sheffield and Jubilee Professor 2022 at Chalmers University Gothenburg. 

She is also co-founder with Constantin Petcou of Atelier d’Architecture Autogérée (,  a Paris-based collective platform  which conducts actions and research on participatory urbanism and architecture, involving local residents in creating and sustaining commons in their neighbourhood, in engaging in social and ecological practices and initiating resilient networks.

Her research concerns issues of urban resilience in relation with urban commons, co-production, feminism, and politics of space. 

Her publications include  LiveAct(2023), Urban Commons Handbook (2022) Architecture and Resilience (2018), Learn to Act (2018) The Social (re)Production of Architecture (2017), R-Urban Act: A Participative Strategy of Urban Resilience (2015), Altering Practices: Feminist Politics and Poetics of Space (2007) and Architecture and Participation (2005).
